The faster, wilder sibling of the classic XC Mountain Bike race, the C Short Track is a high-intensity sprint where riders battle to rack up the most laps in just 20 minutes. Tight turns, loose dirt, and elbow-to-elbow action make this short course a thrilling test of speed and control.

Brace yourself for fast-paced, heart-pounding action at the XC Short Track during this year’s GoPro Mountain Games. Riders will go all-out on a gritty, 1-mile loop on Vail Mountain, battling wheel-to-wheel in a fierce fight for every lap.

*Athlete’s age category based on their age at the end of the calendar year on December 31, 2026.

competition format:

The course is a combination of dirt and grass with limited technical features. One lap will take approximately 3-4 minutes for elites, 4-5 minutes for amateurs.
Athletes will race for 20 minutes + 1 lap (Pro Elite/Open 30 minutes 1+ lap)
Course preview is only available before races begin or during designated preview windows. Riders previewing and interfering with other races will be removed from the event.
Depending on the number of registered athletes, some categories may be combined.
XC Short Track results will be used to assist with seeding Saturday’s XC Mountain Bike Race.
