NEW at the GoPro Mountain Games: Try to catch them all in Orvis Species Slam

The GoPro Mountain Games are a celebration of arts, athletics, music and mountains each year in Vail, Colorado. The Vail Valley Foundation, organizers of the Mountain Games, are always looking for new and fresh ideas. In 2023, the Orvis Species Slam will make its debut as part of the fishing competitions at the GoPro Mountain Games.

Held on Sunday, June 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Orvis Species Slam is simple: Teams of two will work to catch seven different species of fish, submit a video of the catches via the Cinebody App (free) and release the fish back to the river. Species will be assigned points and will be tallied in the event of a tie.

With a $3,000 prize purse on the line, may the most adaptable angler win!

Fish Species
  • Rainbow Trout: 25 points
  • Brown Trout: 25 points
  • Brook Trout: 25 points
  • Bluegill: 25 points
  • Cutthroat Trout: 50 points
  • Mountain Whitefish: 75 points
  • Smallmouth Bass: 75 points

If you don’t catch the most species, you still have a chance to win one of the content submission prizes, and a $500 prize will be awarded for Biggest Fish (length).

Registration is open for the Orvis Species Slam at the GoPro Mountain Games, along with trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, disc golf, rafting, climbing, SUP, yoga and dog events. Early-bird registration for the Orvis Species Slam is $150 per team (prices increase April 6).
