Athletes to Watch: Sparky Moir

Fruita’s Sparky Moir grew up practicing classical ballet and danced through college. After 20 years of doing it, she moved from ballet to yoga. Moir’s husband, Noah Spears, is responsible for finally getting her out on the trails.

Pedaling the world-class singletrack off of Fruita’s 18 Road and famed Loma area, Moir at first embraced the scenery more than the physicality of the sport. But after dialing in the basics, she learned that she not only had the skills, but also a healthy supply of endurance. After competing in endurance and marathon races, she decided it was time to move up to the pro level. In 2016, Moir landed a sponsorship with Pivot Cycles and more recently signed with Fezzari bikes.

Moir is back in the saddle this summer coming off of back-to-back injuries (breaking her hand in 2019 and leg in 2020). At the GoPro Mountain Games, Moir will be competing in the TIAA Bank XC Mountain Bike race. Moir has competed in the Mountain Games XC before, finishing seventh among a stacked pro field when she first bumped up to the highest level in 2016.
