Find your new best friend at the GoPro Mountain Games
Attendees of the 2023 GoPro Mountain Games in Vail will have the chance to leave with a new best friend.
A popular part of the GoPro Mountain Games each year, Colorado dogs will once again be up for adoption at the Eagle County Animal Services tent in Dog Town (Lionshead Village, near the Arrabelle Ice Rink). By adopting a dog, not only are you saving its life, but you’re giving it the second chance that it deserves. There are many benefits of owning a dog, and even more for owning a COLORADO dog that will be your new adventure buddy.
Thinking you might be barking up the wrong tree by adopting a dog? Think again! GoPro Mountain Games partners are here to help. To help ease the yelps of taking the leap and adopting a dog:
- Purina Pro Plan will provide six months of food to all humans who adopt a dog at the GoPro Mountain games.
- Pacifico will donate an adoption starter pack for all humans who adopt a dog, including a collar, leash, bandana and dog bed.
- Ruffwear will be covering adoption fees and provide a Ruffwear Adventure Dog (RAD) kit consisting of a dog bag, leash, toy and bowl. Dogs will also go home in a Ruffwear harness and other gear after getting sized on site.
- The Grand Hyatt will be offering a 2-night stay to the first 10 people who adopt a dog at the GoPro Mountain Games (*based on availability)
Stop by the Eagle County Animal Services tent in Dog Town to adopt your dog at the GoPro Mountain Games:
- Thursday, June 8: 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Friday, June 9: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Saturday, June 10: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Sunday, June 11: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Don’t wait! Less than 20 dogs will be up for adoption — and the GoPro Mountain Games has a track record of getting every dog adopted each year.
Jeremy Gross, the Special Event Coordinator for the Town of Vail, adopted his dog, Nola, at the 2010 Mountain Games.
“My wife and I had just gotten married a few months prior,” he said. “We had a summer full of camping planned and wanted a furry friend to come along with us.”
Now going on 14 years old, Gross said Nola has slowed down quite a bit, but she’s still a happy puppy.
“As long as you are ready for the commitment, I would absolutely recommend adopting,” Gross said.

- GoPro Rocky Dog Fun Run: Happening Thursday, June 8, at 6 p.m., the GoPro Rocky Dog Fun Run is a 5K run/walk on and around Vail Mountain for our four-legged friends and their humans. This event is for dogs and people of all shapes, sizes and athletic abilities. Sign up here.
- Did someone say Yappy Hour?: On Friday through Sunday of the GoPro Mountain Games (June 9-11), special Yappy Hours will take place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the grass in Dog Town (Lionshead Village). Free Pacifico beer, hot dogs provided by GoPro and more will be on tap while the dogs enjoy play time at Yappy Hour.
