The 2025 GoPro Mountain Games delivered four days of pure mountain magic, marking a true watershed moment in the event’s history. From the historic debut of speed climbing to incredible musical performances and the joyful energy of tens of thousands of athletes and spectators, this year’s electric edition perfectly captured why Vail remains the ultimate destination for mountain sports celebration.
“Across the board, Saturday may have been the biggest day we’ve ever had in Mountain Games history,” said Dave Dressman, Event Director of the GoPro Mountain Games. “The stoke and energy were off the charts. The crowd was going wild, the athletes were performing at an incredible level, and you could feel the electricity in the air. It was one of those magical Mountain Games moments that reminds us why we do this event.”
The introduction of speed climbing proved to be an absolute game-changer, with the YETI North American Cup Series – Speed competitions drawing massive crowds and delivering Olympic-level athleticism that left spectators in awe.
Meanwhile, the CoLab creator stage experienced its most successful year yet, with 20 creators from around the globe bringing their unique talents and stories to the Mountain Games community: from stand-up comedy to electronic dance music, to talent shows, to outdoor photography tips, and beyond. Estimated reach from the CoLab alone eclipsed 12 million viewers.
“I’m proud that the CoLab stage this year really started to dig into its identity as the creative hub of the Mountain Games,” said Wade Holland, Creative Director for the CoLab stage. “It was the epitome of what this stage should be: pulling in the community based on this shared love of art, creativity, and the mountains. For me, this was without a doubt the most exciting year of the CoLab.”
The event’s family-friendly atmosphere was strong this year, with nonstop activities to keep kids engaged and entertained. Families found no shortage of ways to create lasting memories together, including face painting, the free kids climbing wall, the complimentary kids SUP/kayak pool, Camp Coletrain, the kids’ bike race, the Nature Valley Mountain Mud Run, and more.
The dog-friendly nature of the event was more prominent than ever, featuring the brand-new Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge Experience alongside the beloved DockDogs competitions. With 23 dogs adopted through Eagle County Animal Services, yappy hours bringing the community together, and Pro Plan Dog Town packed throughout the weekend, the Mountain Games proved it’s truly a celebration for both humans and dogs alike.
The Mountain Games app debuted this year, making it easier than ever for attendees to navigate the event. With personalized schedules and interactive maps, it delivered a smooth, customized experience that elevated the entire weekend.
“What an absolutely phenomenal four days,” said Mike Imhof, President of the Vail Valley Foundation. “The debut of speed climbing, the incredible energy from our creators, athletes, and spectators, the music everywhere, and the endless positive vibes showcase what makes this event so special. This is a testament to the critical partnerships we have with Vail Resorts, Town of Vail, and the U.S. Forest Service, all our amazing sponsors, volunteers, contractors, and specialists, and, of course, the incredible, dedicated group of professionals at the Vail Valley Foundation who run this event. Together, they have created something truly magical.”
The Mountains of Music concert series provided the perfect soundtrack, with unforgettable performances at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater that transformed the event into a true day-to-night festival.
The 2025 GoPro Mountain Games proved once again that when mountain sports, music, art and community come together in Vail, the result is pure magic that creates memories lasting far beyond the weekend.
